I have been working full time in clay and mixed media since I retired in 1998 from a 32 year career as an art educator in NYC. Most of my time is spent in the winter at Greenwich House Pottery, and in my own studio in East Hampton in the summer. Clay is a fascinating medium which lends itself to any number of treatments. This series is called “Meltdown”, and was loosely inspired by the recognition, finally, of our global environmental climate changes. I have been dealing in this series with the unpredictable melting of colored glass on the clay, combined with melted wax, glaze, oxides, and other forms of pigments. The transformation of the glass from the heat presents an exciting challenge of just how far one can “go with the flow” before doing irreparable damage.
During the last ten years my work has been shown in galleries in Riverhead, Watermill, East Hampton and Amagansett, NY. I am also priviledged to have my work in many private collections all over the U.S.
